Background
The purpose is to maximise the impact of science and technology on UK Defence and Security. To this end, the Hazard Assessment Simulation and Prediction (HASP) Group within the Physical Sciences Department conduct modelling, simulation and analysis activities to support defence in the event of Chemical, Biological, Radiological (CBR) releases or attacks. The Statistics and Information Management Team within the HASP group requires a Statistician to contribute and provide technical leadership to the development of several bespoke Bayesian data fusion systems and develop statistical models.
Main Duties/Responsibilities
Bayesian Statistician Development of bespoke data fusion systems and statistical models of sensors, equipment and medical countermeasures used in CBR defence. You will contribute to the development of a Bayesian data fusion system which uses sequential monte carlo techniques to provide inference. You will need to liaise with scientific staff working in other disciplines to gather information on equipment and model requirements, before using your modelling skills to formulate and implement models, either using mathematical modelling packages or suitable programming languages. You will also be responsible for integrating your models into larger systems and validating your models against experimental data. Prepare customer and technical reports, and presentations. Proactively share and exploit the team's knowledge and capability. Communicate complex mathematical and statistical modelling ideas to various audiences. Act as mentor and review the work of others.
