Data Engineer - Storage Specialist - Java/NoSQL/Linux/Bash/Hadoop/Clustering
The Data Engineer role is to help maintain our storage subsystems, identify bottlenecks and carry out development work to improve performance and reliability.
You should have all of the following:
A good programming-related degree or equivalent commercial experience At least 3 years of Java programming in a production environment Hands-on experience of working with large datasets (tens of terabytes) in an RDBMS or NoSQL/Key-Value storage systems Familiarity with Linux and bash command-line Solid understanding of scaling issues, partitioning, sharding, clustering etc.
Any of the following skills are desirable:
Knowledge of Java Garbage Collection tuning Use of Solr/Lucene or similar full-text search indexes Experience with web crawling and text processing Track record of introducing or migrating a major new storage system into production Familiarity with Hadoop and its related projects, particularly HBase Experience with OLAP and Datawarehouse techniques
